Potters Bar is located on the Great North Road, is Middlesex history and has formed the Potters Bar Urban District since 1934. The population of the region is 13,681 and increased to 24,613 in 1971. The area is also home to the famous L31 Airship, which was shot down by Lieutenant Wolstein Tempest in 1916. Nineteen German sailors were buried in the local cemetery and later reburied at Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery.
