In 1830, Lord Derby retired from hunting due to declining health and moved to Knowlsley. He presented "hounds, stags and all" to Jonathan Griffin. The Surrey stag-hounds were renamed and paid for by subscription, and the servants' coats were changed from scarlet to green plush. Mr. Maberly from Shirley acted as master for two seasons, but when he resigned, a replacement could not be found, and the hounds were sold to a buyer in Hungary in 1832.
