The bishop first mentioned East Horsley Manor, a manor in the county of Sussex, in 1243. The property was valued at one-quarter of a knight's fee and eventually sold to Henry VIII, Marquis of Exeter. It was surrendered to the Crown along with the marquis' other estates in 1538. It was granted by Edward VI to Thomas Fisher, who alienated it to William Walter in 1555. Walter did not keep possession for long, and in 1555, he joined Sir Nicholas Throckmorton, to whom it may have been leased, in ceding the manor to Joan Hamond, widow.. Sir Laurence Stoughton, husband to his stepdaughter Rose Ive, received the manor by will from her son William Hamond on May 5, 1575, and they were in possession in 1580. Sir Laurence Stoughton sold the property to Thomas Cornwallis in 1584, and he died in 1596. His wife died in possession in 1626, when her great-nephew Thomas Earl of Southampton took over. He sold the manor three years later to Carew Raleigh, who later bought West Horsley (q.v.). He held the bishop's property for around fifteen years until transferring it to Henry son of Sir Christopher Hildyard of Winestead in Holderness via trustees.
