London Luton Airport is an international airport located in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, 1.7 miles (2.7 kilometers) east of the town center and 35 miles (56 kilometers) north of Central London. The airport is owned by London Luton Airport Ltd, a business completely owned by Luton Borough Council, and is operated by London Luton Airport Operations Ltd (LLAOL). On July 16, 1938, the location was transformed into an airport. During WWII, Royal Air Force fighters utilized the airfield. Commercial operations and general aviation flight instruction at Luton Airport restarted in 1952.
